Wildlife Hydroseed Food Plots in Southeastern NC

Hydroseeded food plots for deer and turkey, planted right for our coastal plain soils, so your land holds and grows the wildlife you manage it for.

For the Land You Hunt

Food Plots, Established the Way Ag Ground Gets Established

Plenty of food plots in this part of the state get planted the hard way: a bag of seed thrown on rough ground before a rain, and a prayer. More often than not the deer get a patchy stand that burns out by October. We bring the same equipment and process we use on commercial seeding jobs to your hunting land, and the difference shows in the stand.

Our coastal plain soils run sandy and acidic, which premium forage dislikes, so we pull soil samples first and apply lime and fertilizer to real lab numbers before any seed goes down. Then we hydroseed a blend matched to your goals: perennial clover and chicory for spring and summer protein and turkey bugging habitat, or fall cereal grains and brassicas that draw and hold deer through hunting season. If we can get equipment to it, we can turn it green.

In Short

We hydroseed wildlife food plots for deer and turkey across southeastern North Carolina, handling soil testing, lime and fertilizer, site prep, and spray application of proven forage blends like clover, chicory, and cereal grains. Hydroseeding gives plots faster, more even establishment than broadcast seeding, especially on our sandy, acidic coastal soils.

Deer, Turkey, and the Ground Itself

Wildlife Planting Services We Offer

From a half-acre kill plot to a whole property's forage program, here is how we help landowners and hunt clubs across southeastern North Carolina.

Forage and Hunting Plots for Whitetail

For deer, we plant with two calendars in mind. Warm-season perennials like clover and chicory carry protein through antler growth and fawn rearing, and cool-season annuals like oats, wheat, brassicas, and winter peas create the fall draw you actually hunt over. A property with both holds deer year-round instead of borrowing them in November.

Hydroseeding shines on plots because establishment is fast and even, and the mulch layer keeps our droughty sandy soils from cooking the seed before it sprouts. On bigger acreage we can phase plantings so something palatable is always coming on.

  • Perennial clover and chicory protein plots
  • Fall annual blends for hunting season draw
  • Fast, even stands from hydroseed application
  • Plot layout advice for access and wind
  • Phased plantings for year-round forage

Plots and Openings That Hold Turkeys

Turkeys want short, open, buggy green. Clover plots are the gold standard, giving hens and poults easy travel, heavy insect life, and tender forage from late winter green-up right through spring season. Chicory mixed in adds drought resilience so the plot stays green when a dry May tries to shut it down.

We also convert and maintain openings that make properties turkey-friendly: logging decks, field edges, and lanes seeded to low green cover. If you have ever watched birds pitch off the roost into a fresh green opening in March, you know exactly what we are building toward.

  • Clover-based blends turkeys actually use
  • Chicory for drought insurance in sandy soil
  • Logging deck and lane conversions
  • Green openings for strutting and bugging
  • Timed so plots peak with spring season

Testing, Lime, and Seedbed Preparation

This tab is the unglamorous one that decides whether the other two work. Coastal plain soils commonly test well below the pH that clovers and most forages want, and no amount of fertilizer fixes a pH problem. We sample your plots, read the lab report, and apply lime and nutrients to the numbers, not to guesswork.

Then comes the seedbed. We clear residue, work the ground as the site requires, and spray onto soil that seed can actually make contact with. It is the same discipline a farmer brings to a crop field, applied to the corner of the property you care most about in October and April.

  • Soil sampling with real lab analysis
  • Lime applied to hit target pH
  • Fertilizer matched to the blend's needs
  • Proper seedbed prep before spraying
  • The step that separates plots that last

Food Plot Questions From NC Landowners

Cool-season plots of clover, cereal grains, and brassicas go in from roughly September into October here, riding fall rains into hunting season. Warm-season plantings and perennial establishment work well in spring, generally April into May. Our mild coastal winters are forgiving, but timing to soil moisture matters more than the calendar, and we schedule plantings around real conditions.

Perennial clover with chicory is the closest thing to a universal answer in our area. Deer use it nearly year-round for protein, turkeys use it for bugging and green forage, and it persists for years when the pH is right and it gets basic maintenance. We typically pair those perennial plots with fall annual plots that create a stronger hunting-season draw for deer.

Almost always it is some combination of low pH that was never corrected with lime, seed that lost soil contact or moisture before establishing, and drought stress on a shallow-rooted stand. Our sampling-first, hydroseed application approach addresses all three: the lab report drives lime, the slurry holds seed and moisture in place, and blends with deep-rooted species like chicory ride out dry spells.

You do not technically need one, but planting without one in this region is gambling. Coastal soils here are commonly acidic enough to lock up nutrients and stunt clover badly. North Carolina residents can even get samples analyzed through the state lab inexpensively, and we handle sampling and interpretation as part of our food plot service so the guesswork is gone.

Useful plots start smaller than most people think. A half acre of well-established clover feeds a lot of wildlife, and even quarter-acre kill plots earn their keep when placed well. Bigger destination plots of one to three acres hold deer better on larger tracts. We will help you match plot size and placement to your acreage, access, and goals.
